Richard has over 28 years’ experience in financial and risk management, in both the private and public sectors. He established his risk consulting practice, Risk & Regulation, after leaving his position as a Partner and Director of the Enterprise Risk Practice of Deloitte New Zealand in 2013. He remains a specialist adviser to Deloitte and a member of Deloitte’s Global Financial Services Industries Risk and Capital Management group.

He has worked with Westlake Governance since 2013 as a core team member on assignments with significant risk management focus. He presents regularly at international conferences and seminars on risk governance and risk management and is an active contributor to publications on risk in financial services.

Before joining Deloitte, Richard held senior positions with Westpac Banking Corporation, the Development Bank of Southern Africa and Swiss SA Reinsurance.

In the financial field, Richard’s focus is on assisting banks and other financial institutions respond to regulatory change. And in the public sector he works with a wide range of agencies advising on risk associated with strategy, performance and change.

Richard is currently a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Leadership Board (AFLB) and was previously a Trustee of the Wellink Trust (mental health) before it was merged into Richmond Trust.
